Seems like there are one hundred and one things to do on Saturdays. The one thing that I really looked forward to did get done – Putting our Tower Garden together. Now, just to set the record straight, I am not a gardener. I did grow potatoes once or at least they were sprouting, but our neighbor at the time plowed them up. Then one year, I had a small garden but it was so dry and with the water shortage – kind of like the drought in California – I couldn’t water it and everything just dried up. So after spending so much money on seeds, time, etc., I figured it was just as easy to buy from the Farmer’s Market. That’s what I’ve done for several years. Sometimes the veggies looked great, other times, not so great. Seems like water was always an issue…not enough rain, to dry, lost crop because of no rain. Then when I started selling Juice Plus, I was introduced to the Tower Garden. So, I had to give it a try, especially with our hot summers, and more water shortages, why not? That was one of the best moves for helping feed my family and save money at the same time.
With the Tower Garden, you don’t need any gardening experience. Its compact, state-of the art vertical aeroponic system fits easily on patios, rooftops, terraces, and—most of all—into a healthy diet. And, because of its unique technology and design, it uses less than 10% of the water and land required by traditional, soil-based agriculture. There was a study which was done recently by the University of Mississippi which found that it also generates 30% more produce than soil-based growing methods! And one of the best things that I love about it is that it’s on my back porch! Just outside my kitchen!
Now, why wouldn’t I want to grow my own veggies! I purchased my Tower Garden two years ago and for the past two summers, I have not had to purchase lettuce, kale, chard, peppers, eggplants, cucumbers, and the list goes on! And now, we have grow lights! So I can grow all year round in the basement or garage.
I read an article not long ago about the drought in California and around the world. It stated that cities currently need well-irrigated farmland to produce food. If climate change becomes serious, can mankind feed itself from city-grown crops? That’s scary.
I’ve been on a journey to grow my own food…our own nutrition. That’s what it’s all about. The food we eat helps heal our bodies. Less processed food and more nutritional food. What do doctors say when diagnosed with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart problems, cancer, etc… “CHANGE YOUR DIET!” Why treat the disease instead of PREVENTING the disease.
